Boomenbrug

Amstelveen, NL

A team of government traffic engineers proposed the creation of a safe crossing over the A9 highway between north and south Amstelveen. The municipality requested the result become a “landmark for Amstelveen.” Juurlink and Geluk won the tender for the design of this new bridge. Our winning proposal is designed as a green carpet with large trees in over-sized flowerpots. Those flower pots also serve as structural support for the green carpet. The design reflects Amstelveen’s tradition of paying special attention, and placing great emphasis towards building a green ecological city. In 2014, Amstelveen won the Greenest City in Europe Prize.
