Schrijversbuurt
The Schrijversbuurt is on the verge of a major redevelopment. Over the past few years, work has been carried out on the urban planning study in collaboration with residents, Woonopmaat, and the municipality. The new Schrijversbuurt neighborhood has been designed with the future in mind: climate-adaptive, green, and resilient. Extensive street-level planting provides cooling on hot days, naturally captures rainwater, and contributes to a healthy living environment. There is also a strong focus on ecology: plant species have been selected to align with native flora and fauna, fostering the development of a robust, natural ecosystem. The plan also incorporates measures to boost biodiversity, such as nesting sites for bats, facilities for birds, and habitats for insects.
The outdoor space encourages walking, playing, and social interaction, thanks to a pedestrian-friendly layout and limited car traffic in the residential streets. At the heart of the plan lies the 'Kralensnoerpark' (String of Beads Park): a connected series of green spaces and pathways that are entirely car-free. Here, people take center stage—children play safely, neighbors meet spontaneously, and biodiversity flourishes. Pocket parks are also located in two other areas. The Kralensnoerpark and these pocket parks serve as the logical locations for incorporating greater building heights within the blocks.

The new Schrijversbuurt: rooted in the past, leaping into the future.
Cars naturally remain part of daily life, but they are housed in ground-level parking structures. This avoids the need for construction within the groundwater zone and creates a sustainable, future-proof solution. Private outdoor spaces and gardens for the homes are created atop these parking structures, providing residents with a green, tranquil area that connects directly to their living environment.
